An absolute charter in the first instance was granted to this corporation by action of the Board of Regents on October 28, 1909. The board of trustees has applied for an amendment to the absolute charter to change the corporate name to “The Brooklyn Queens Conservatory of Music.”   The Office of Cultural Education recommends that the absolute charter be amended accordingly.

A provisional charter was granted to this corporation by action of the Board of Regents on October 15, 1948.    Such provisional charter was made absolute by Regents action on March 28, 1952.  Such absolute charter was amended by action of the Board of Regents on March 20, 1959 and May 20, 1983. The board of trustees has applied for an amendment to the absolute charter to change the corporate address to 5785 State Highway 80, Cooperstown, New York 13326.  The Office of Cultural Education recommends that the absolute charter be amended accordingly.

A provisional charter was granted to this corporation by action of the Board of Regents on December 20, 1963.  Such provisional charter was made absolute by Regents action on January 29, 1969. The board of trustees has applied for an amendment to the absolute charter to add the language necessary to maintain tax-exempt status under Internal Revenue Code §501(c)(3). The Office of Cultural Education recommends that the absolute charter be amended accordingly.

THE NEW YORK ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

 

New York City, New York County

 

This corporation was incorporated by Special Act of the New York State Legislature by Chapter 197 of the Laws of 1818 on April 20, 1818 under the corporate name “The Lyceum of Natural History in the City of New York” to foster continuing education in the field of the sciences.  Such absolute charter was amended by Order of the Supreme Court of the State of New York on January 5, 1876 to change the corporate name to “The New York Academy of Sciences” and amended by Chapter 181 of the Laws of 1902 on March 19, 1902 and by action of the Board of Regents on December 15, 1978 and last amended by Regents action March 15, 2005.  The board of trustees has applied for an amendment to the absolute charter to change the corporate address to 7 World Trade Center at 250 Greenwich Street in the city, county and State of New York. The Office of Cultural Education recommends that the absolute charter be amended accordingly.

A provisional charter was granted to this corporation by action of the Board of Regents on October 12, 1933.  Such provisional charter was made absolute by Regents action on November 20, 1936.  The board of trustees has applied for an amendment to the absolute charter to increase the maximum number of trustees to 35.  The Office of Cultural Education recommends that the absolute charter be amended accordingly.

WILLIAM H. BUSH MEMORIAL LIBRARY

 

Martinsburg, Lewis County

 

A provisional charter was granted to this corporation by action of the Board of Regents  under the corporate name “Martinsburg Free Library” on July 2, 1913 to operate an association library.  Such provisional charter was amended by Regents action on November 18, 1925 to change the corporate name to “William H. Bush Free Library” and amended again on October 29, 1926.  Such provisional charter was extended by Regents action on December 20, 1940, December 20, 1946 and April 25, 1952 and was made absolute by Regents action on September 28, 1956.  Such absolute charter was amended on July 25, 1980 to add dissolution language and to change the corporate name to “William H. Bush Memorial Library.”  The board of trustees has applied for an amendment to the absolute charter to specify the service area to be the Town of Martinsburg and to designate the Commissioner of Education as agent of the corporation upon whom process in any action or proceeding against it may be served.  The Office of Cultural Education recommends that the absolute charter be amended accordingly.

The board of trustees has petitioned the Board of Regents for an absolute charter in the first instance to form a corporation to support and benefit The Rockefeller University, including collecting, organizing, preserving and providing access to the University’s historical papers and records and associated publications.  The Office of Cultural Education recommends that a provisional charter be granted for a period of five years in order to allow the corporation time to secure ownership of its archival collections and otherwise demonstrate that it can meet the requirements for an absolute charter.

A provisional charter was granted to this corporation by action of the Board of Regents on September 17, 1999 to operate a nursery school for preschool children from three to five years of age.  An order to consolidate with All My Children Day Care, Inc. was granted by Regents action on September 17, 1999.  The board of trustees has applied for an amendment to the provisional charter to add authority for the corporation to also operate at sites 16907 Jewel Avenue, Flushing, New York 11365 and 108-22 69th Avenue, Forest Hills, New York 11375 and add authority for the corporation to provide services for children with disabilities between the ages of three to five, including but not limited to, evaluations, special classes, Special Education Itinerant Services, related services, special classes within integrated settings, within center based programs and within public schools in school districts in Queens, Kings and Nassau counties.  The board of trustees further requests that the provisional charter, as so amended, be made absolute. The Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) has been provided with an opportunity to review this action and the trustees have been advised that the granting of any amendment thereof does not constitute approval for state funding for the programs and services under the jurisdiction of VESID as so amended, for an absolute charter.  The Office of Nonpublic School Services recommends that the provisional charter be amended accordingly and, as so amended, be made absolute.
