Master of Arts in Physics Education, January 2004)
Petition for: Acceptance of
education.
Statement of
Problem:
Mr. Deacon has applied for licensure in the medical physics specialty area of
diagnostic radiologic physics. Commissioner's Regulations require that an
applicant complete an acceptable master's degree program in medical physics,
physics, another physical science, mathematics, engineering, or an equivalent
field. Mr. Deacon's bachelor's
degree was in business administration, and he has completed eight semester hours
of graduate-level study in physics, medical health physics, and radiation
biology at San Diego State University. He earned a master's degree in physics
education from the University of Virginia in 2004. His studies included
coursework in all the required areas for licensure, but he has not earned a
master’s degree in one of the subject areas specified in Commissioner’s
Regulations.
Mr. Deacon asks that his education be accepted as the substantial
equivalent of a master's degree in the specified fields. The Executive Secretary of the State
Committee for Medical Physics supports his request.
