The P-12 Education Committee held its scheduled meeting on February 12, 2024. All members were present except for Vice Chancellor Josephine Victoria Finn, who was excused. Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr., Regent Catherine Collins, and Regent Luis O. Reyes, also attended the meeting.

MATTERS NOT REQUIRING BOARD ACTION

Update on Free School Meals for All Students - Department staff presented on the number of students with access to free school meals since the enactment of the Community Eligibility Provision State Subsidy.

Update on Academic and Linguistic Demands - Department staff presented an update on the publication of the Academic and Linguistic Demands: Creating Access to the Next Generation Learning Standards in English language arts for Linguistically Diverse Learners (ALDs). This set of tools helps teachers identify the words, phrases, and language structures embedded in the English Language Arts standards so that all teachers are able to provide standards-aligned, grade-level instruction to English Language Learners. 

Deputy Commissioner Angelique Johnson-Dingle reviewed the items on the Consent Agenda.
