SUMMARY
Issue for Discussion
The NYS Archives, Library, and Museum, together with other cultural institutions around the state, including Public Television stations, offer many curriculum and standards-related products and services for teachers – contact with objects from collections; tours for school groups; presentations at schools; teacher professional development programs; and internet-based resources, including video clips, digital collections, interactive games, teacher guides, lesson plans, and more.
As an example, Mission US: For Crown or Colony, is a free online interactive game aimed at middle school students. This game and its associated materials can be included in a variety of settings and instructional strategies.
Mission US will be demonstrated. Discussion will focus on the advantages of including the game in instruction along with the challenges involved in marketing the game to teachers and school districts. These advantages and challenges are present with almost any instructional resource offered by cultural institutions.
